Q. With regard to chipboard based floor panels is there any testing
to determine the effects of temperature and humidity on the chipboard core?
A. BS EN 12825 does not cover the effects of temperature and humidity but the
AFA Code of Practice COP 1-2001 suggest that suitable testing (as the PSA spec)
is undertaken.
The PSA MOB PF2 PS/SPU specification subjects the raised floor panels regardless
of their construction to a range of temperature and humidity testing from 5°C
to 30°C and from 25% RH to 75% RH. The panels are checked for any variation
in their dimensional properties as a result of exposure to these temperature
and humidity levels. The panels are also checked structurally to ensure there
is no deterioration in the structural performance.
Q. What is a carpet location system?
A. Carpet location systems are where the carpet tile is fitted with small plastic
location pips (normally four) which locate into location holes in the panel
top surface. The carpet tile will be of the same module size as the floor panel
and will be laid on the same grid as the raised floor panels. This has the benefit
that in order to gain access to the under floor services the lifting of carpet
and floor panels is kept to a minimum. However some would say that the quality
of the finished carpet tile installation is inferior to a conventional off grid
carpet tile installation. Also the choice of carpet tile may be significantly
limited and incur additional costs.
